This is definitely the most technical piece completed. More than 60 hours sitting time. The reference photo was taken by a very dear friend named Dani Clark, taken in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Affectionately named, “El Guapo”. Partly because he’s just so handsome and regal sunning himself on the rock. Partly because the reminds me of the hefe from The Three Amigos.

This was one of the many moments that made me fall more in love with my now fiance. We were only friends the time he walked me around his family’s origin village. The admiration his little nieces and nephews had for him was such a joy to watch, but it was his patience and gentleness he had for them as they played endlessly with him and his smartphone, that caused my heart to flutter.

This piece will always be very dear to my heart. It is my artistic recreation of a photo I took of one of my boys, Isaiah, as he carried water to the house from a natural spring. We were constantly dealing with a water shortage at the time, and Isaiah, ever patient and ever thinking about others, went to fetch water for us. This is not just a captured moment, this is a glimpse of the endless selfless acts this kid has wrecked my world with.

The end of the Harmattan season in Ghana comes around March. not only are the skies a hazy orange with the sands blown south from the sahara and the temperatures scorching, it always seems to be the time of year the power outtages happen much more frequently. There’s nothing more refreshing than a dip in the waters of Lake Volta.
